How early is Euston's platform announced?
Usually about 10 to 15 minutes before departure, according to HighSpeedTrains' Euston station guide. Timing varies, and some services board earlier. This is not a guarantee for your train.
Reading a predicted platform
RailUK Forums contributors describe Realtime Trains' platform numbers as grey for expected but unconfirmed, black for confirmed, and red for changed. These colours refer to that tool, not every station board or this app.
Free tools such as Realtime Trains can show a predicted platform before the station screens do. Predictions can change at the last minute. Always check the station screens and listen to staff before heading to a gate.
Could platforms be announced earlier?
In September 2026, Time Out London reported that Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said last-minute announcements would be phased out within the following year. That is a reported plan, not confirmation that it has happened.
Earlier boarding has already been trialled. Network Rail reported trials in October 2024 with earlier boarding for some Avanti West Coast trains and continuous boarding for London Northwestern Railway services to Birmingham. This does not mean every train boards early.
What Platform Whisperer will show
Once enough real history has been collected, Platform Whisperer will show how often each service keeps its usual platform. We do not have live train data today. The app currently uses clearly labelled demo trains and platforms.
